Sweet Cravings

Book Design | Class Project | 12 Weeks | Id Ps Lr DSLR (Nikon)

Sweet Cravings is a dessert cookbook designed, developed, written, photographed and printed by me. It encapsulates my love for baking and book design, as well as my journey into recipe development and food photography, which catapulted during the pandemic. Photographed is the printed book perfect bound, with a glossy hardcover.

The Goals

To develop a grid system and recipe layout that successfully applies to recipes that vary in length and pages with varying content.

Develop a design that is inviting, timeless and captivating as seen through the fonts, bright blue opening & closing pages and large, drool-worthy food photography.

Develop a cookbook that is practical for the user, through carefully chosen type sizes, the spacious layout and by adding several pages for the reader to take recipe notes.

The Process

MANUSCRIPT & CONTENT

I started my process by writing an initial draft of the book manuscript. I then started to gather and photograph any missing content.

CREATIVE DIRECTION

Next, I designed several cover and interior layouts for the book. I experimented with various fonts, type and image treatments.

PRINT & REFINE

I tested the design and flow of the book through low-quality prints and thumbnails. I continually refined the design, margins and type sizes.

FINAL BOOK

After proof reading the book and finalizing the design, I carefully exported the file for print and sent it out to print.
